Internode names CIO

Mitchell Bingemann | December 02, 2008

AFTER a four month search national internet service provider Internode has named navy veteran Mike Damms as its chief information officer, a newly created position.

Internode chief executive Patrick Tapper said Mr Damms was chosen for his strong pedigree in large telecommunication companies.

Aside from stints at Vodafone in Britain, Avaya, Lucent and Motorola, Mr Damms spent three years as an account director with Siemens Mobile and two years as head of operations at Cable & Wireless overseeing its broadband, voice and IPTV customer base.

Mr Damms said his role as CIO was to break down silos between Internode’s technology areas. ”I plan to put in place a structure that gives people more predictable outcomes for both their external and internal customers,” he said.

Prior to his stints in the telco industry he spent 15 years in the British Royal Navy, including seven years as senior air engineering manager.

Mr Damms’ appointment comes after Internode revamped its corporate structure in August this year.

As part of the restructure Mr Tapper came on board as the company’s CEO while a board of directors was appointed to allow new investors to join its share register alongside sole shareholder and managing director Simon Hackett.

Internode is ranked among the 10 largest ISPs in Australia with over 150,000 broadband and dial-up customers.
