Iris scanning planned for Brisbane Airport security

CUTTING-edge iris scanning technology will be used in security screening at Brisbane Airport within five years, it has been revealed.

Brisbane Airport Corporation chief executive Koen Rooijmans told yesterday's unveiling of the international terminal's $340 million expansion he expected Brisbane to be at the forefront of new security technology.

"It's up to the Government to make the ultimate decision about the way forward," Mr Rooijmans said.

Brisbane Airport already uses face recognition technology for its e-tag electronic passport processing.
